Our Mission: Is to empower underserved communities by developing sustainable systems that increase access to health care services, disease prevention and economic empowerment
Our vision: People in these communities will emerge from a life of poverty and disease to an improved and sustainable status of life
In Uganda, where over 80% of the population lives in rural areas, subsistence farming is a way of life. Women are often the primary providers for their families, working tirelessly to ensure their children have food, clothing, and access to education.
To enhance their economic capabilities, we have embarked on an exciting new initiative: The Piglet Project. This project was born out of a simple but powerful idea from the women we serve. By providing them with piglets, we empower them with a sustainable source of income and food.
Piglets are easy to care for and multiply quickly, offering a practical and effective solution for these communities. Each pig can grow from 1.5kg at birth to 90kg in 170 days and can produce up to 20 piglets in a year. This rapid growth and high productivity make pig rearing an ideal project for families with small landholdings.
Sustainable Development: Our ultimate goal is to foster sustainable development in Uganda. By empowering women and their families, we are helping to build communities that are resilient, self-sufficient, and able to thrive for generations to come.
Improved Health: By enhancing the economic status of these communities, we are also working to increase their access to healthcare services. This includes disease prevention and treatment, which are key to improving the overall health and well-being of these communities.
Economic Empowerment: Through innovative projects like the Piglet Project, we aim to provide women and their families with sustainable means of income. By giving them the resources to raise and care for piglets, we are not just giving them livestock – we are giving them an opportunity to improve their economic standing and, in turn, their quality of life.
Just A Little Help Can Make Their Hearts Happier.
Pig farming empowers with an up to 80% income boost in the first year, helping individuals and communities break free from poverty.
Uganda leads in pork consumption, with 3.4 kg per person per year, creating sustainable opportunities for farmers by meeting local market demand.
In Uganda, over 1.1 million families engage in pig farming as a vital backyard activity, reflecting its widespread importance in community livelihoods.
The goal of this project is to enable the vulnerable poor people in remote villages to have access to safe drinking water, understand the importance of safe drinking water in disease prevention and other basic preventive health measures through public health education and possibly reduce the death rate from common preventable diseases of diarrhoea, dysentery, cholera and other water borne diseases.
In order to achieve this goal, Marita Foundation is setting up water purification systems in schools, health centres and carrying out public health education in schools and communities. Marita foundation is also empowering rural women to sustainably improve their economic wellbeing through self-sustaining economic projects to the organised community groups
At Marita Foundation, we are proud of the impact we have made through our past projects. With a focus on improving the lives of underserved communities in Uganda, we have implemented various initiatives that have brought positive change. These past projects reflect our commitment to empowering communities, promoting hygiene, and ensuring access to clean water. We are dedicated to making a positive and lasting impact on the lives of underserved populations in Uganda.
We have provided 100 goats to 15 women groups in Bulambuli district, enabling economic empowerment and self-sustainability. Each group, comprising a minimum of 10 women, received goats to start their own herds, fostering economic independence and improving livelihoods.
Through 30 outreach programs, we educated communities on sanitation and hygiene practices. We focused on topics such as safe drinking water, proper handwashing, and clean utensil management. By raising awareness, we promoted healthier habits and enhanced overall hygiene within the communities.
In schools and health Centre IV, we established solar-powered water purification systems. These systems provide clean and safe drinking water, benefiting students, staff, and the wider community. By implementing sustainable water solutions, we contribute to disease prevention and improved well-being.
